On A Decorating Kick (or if you ask ben "rampage")

Blame it on too much HGTV, but I can't stop concocting up new ideas for our house. (It was the "I've been watching too much 'Get It Sold' on HGTV that prompted a furry of craigslist sales last month, including our living room rug and big chair to make our house seem bigger to potential buyers. And no, our house is not on the market, nor are we thinking of selling it...?). So room by room, I've been making lists and sketching ideas, taking blurry cell phone pictures from things on T.V. and saving pictures from blogs online to try and spruce up the ol' homestead.

Just because it's on my mind (and I keep finding TO DIE FOR rooms), I just had to share.

I just LOVE this one from the blog "Young house love" (thanks Julie :). I love color, but feel like if I tried to pull something like this off, it wouldn't work. This is coming from the girl who's bathroom has gone from white to purple to periwinkle, now to dark gray. (and the dining room has had the same sort of transformation). Because I tend to have decorating ADD and am finding my way around what actually looks good and works, I've started to stick to more neutral colors, and accessorizing with fun things. Still, how great is this room?!


Bedrooms have been my focus since I've been trying to make ours more enjoyable to be in. Unfortunately we also have our desk in our bedroom (and soon to be a baby) so that's making it less of a "restful getaway" more of a smorgasbord of a place.

Rockin' and Rollin'

We are on the mend!!! And a highlight of the sicky week was that the baby started to move...a whole lot! Now it's less of a flutter-feeling and more of a KICK! It's so fun!!! I will be 19 weeks TOMORROW! That means less than two weeks 'till our March 11th ultrasound. Of course, we can't wait!!!!

We've also entered the phase of pregnancy where no matter what I eat, the heartburn is there. (Not necessarily my favorite part of the whole thing...).

Mimi likes to put things down my shirt and says they are for the baby. Sometimes, unsolicited, she will say things to my stomach or the baby too. Very cute.

The Sick Chronicles

It was coming. We knew it. We just didn't know when...  

Mimi's first stomach bug.

It is day FIVE of my excruciating sore throat and yucky cough (so yucky that Ben has been sleeping with a pillow over his head at different parts of the night!). Hoping for some little rainbow of wellness this morning, we woke up to Mimi's first stomach bug. Poor girl. I seriously don't know how we dodged this nasty bullet for so long. However, it's now 3:00 pm and we've been puke-free for at least 5-6 hours. She is sleeping (and of course I should be too!) but I had to document this soon-to-be infamous day in our house. (and mostly because she has been so sweet in the midst of being sick that I don't want to forget).

*I was starting to get semi-concerned for the littlest Turrill in our house, so I went to the doc this morning to make sure there wasn't anything more serious than a cold wrong with me. We are clear!!! Just a stinky coldish virus thing. Phew! (I was feeling ESPECIALLY guilty that I hadn't had my flu shot yet...shame, shame, shame. ) But it's not the flu!

** UPDATE: Just when I thought that this cute smile meant that we were out of the woods, Wednesday the stomach bug hit Mama-hard. It was the worst thing that I can remember...I now have NO VOICE (literally) from my bronchitis thing and all the violence that occurred to my throat yesterday (TMI). YUCK YUCK YUCK. Then, to make it even worse, Ben, who never gets sick, caught it late last night. Poor Turrills! We do seem to be on the mend though. Bob and Robyn graciously came and got Mimi and took her on a swimming/Goodtimes adventure while we slept. The best part is that they brought her home with just enough time to get her down for a nap...THEY ARE ANGELS. I was moved to tears...we are so so lucky. (Also a big shout out goes to my mom who I kept texting with last night when I started getting fearful of dehydration and baby T)...xoxo Thanks mom. Let's hope NOW were on the road to recovery. ***

Big Girl Things

I have been SICK SICK SICK over the last four days...it's been miserable! I feel so bitter that preggie people have to get colds too..haven't we suffered enough going through two months+ of morning sickness?!!? But enough of my rant...

So, while I was sleeping in bed Ben took Mimi to any and every park and also made a trip to Costco to get this:

MIMI'S FIRST BIG GIRL BED!!!!

We're just going to have one in her room for now, pushed up against the wall. We looked for trundles for a long time (just for when she's older with friends sleeping over and stuff), but this jumped out at us and was SO cute!!!! 

Another BIG GIRL development is that we signed Mimi up for preschool in the fall!!!! It was a long process of deciding. We just didn't know if it'd be too early to start. Since Mimi has an August birthday, she'd either be an early kindergartener, or a later one. I prefer the last (since I've had plenty of time to form an opinion about that teaching kindergarten!!!! However, if parenting has taught me anything, it's taught me not to make ANY definite statements about parenting opinions! They are always changing!!!!). Anyways, we looked at a  few schools and found a sweet little preschool in Longmont that was just perfect. It seemed to be what preschool is all about...sweet teachers, fun things to play with and lots of time just to learn how to be in a classroom (they do Zoo phonics too, which I love!). And, our neighbors sent their daughter, Kira there and they loved it! So, we signed her up!!!! I think that it will be nice to have some structure in our lives come the fall (with less time for me to try to occupy Mims with meaningful activities that don't always include the T.V.!). We will see how all of this looks with a new baby in the house as well..!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Seven years ago....

...Ben and I were MARRIED! What a fun number to celebrate :) 

We went out on Saturday night to celebrate. We had a unique, low-key Longmont night that involved a great restaurant (Tortuga's), a red dress (to accommodate the belly), and some pottery painting at a Valentine's Day date night (Ben's gift to me. I figured if it was miserable, either way, it'd be hard to forget! It was actually fun, once I could stop giggling with joy at the fact that Ben was painting a bowl-a pretty good one at that! There were desserts, a chocolate fountain, etc... and the "cheese-factor" was low. We really did have fun, and now we can always use our fun little date night bowls to remember our seventh year).

Mimi and I have been celebrating Valentine's Day a lot. We went to the fun little craft class in Longmont last week to do Valentine's day crafts. We also made valentine's for friends! Today, we've started by watching the new Disney Junior Pirate show she's been looking forward to, made heart-shaped pancakes for us, Dad and Paytes and are off to a park in a bit.

BELLY UPDATE:

It feels seriously so different than Mims. I had Ben take pics a couple of times this weekend, because I couldn't believe it! It's just so OUT there! And thankfully, not much else on my body feels BIG (yet). I think with Mimi there was more general wideness...(although there's still plenty of time for that!) This pregnancy is just so noticeably different than Mimi's. 

Just a few more weeks until the ultrasound!!! We had our 16 week appt. and heard the heart so all is well. I will tell anyone who will listen how convinced I am that this is a boy. I have a long list of  some of my reasons/observations. (interested parties can inquire within). I am really going to look silly if I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.

We seem to be everywhere with names. We feel sure about a girl name, but boy names are so much harder!!!! I ALWAYS love different names and thought I had one I loved, but it's not as common so it comes with a loooong explanation. I'm tired of having to preface it with everyone...yesterday I told Ben that if it is a boy, we should just put all of the names we like in a jar and pull one out when the baby comes! We will see...

However, if it is a girl, I will feel more prepared. We have a whole basement full of clothes (each size in the right season since Mimi is an August baby and this is July). Plus, I have already done "girl things" like mastering the art of buckling up a toddler in full princess regalia into her carseat, so I've got that going for me. 

Let the adventure continue :)

Super Bowl Fun

 Dad was sweet and offered to let Ben and I go out to a movie while he watched Mims. They had a fun, full night together and when we came home the house was clean and Mimi was alseep in bed. Dad gets an A+ for his babysitting skills!

Then we went up Rodger's sister Carol's house on Lake Loveland for a fun Super Bowl party!
