A Boy and His Love for Baseball

Bode has been asking to go to a Rockies game all summer. Not even joking.
We got our hands on some tickets earlier this year, but that was a very "un-baseball-like" time...(coldest game in franchise history). Fun, but still leaving a longing for a summer evening at picturesque Coors Field.

So we scoured the schedule to find a night game that wasn't too late and didn't conflict with anything going on. Friday was that day.
It was pretty great. Pizza first, then to the game. Of course we only stayed through the sixth inning, but we had fun.

Bode's version of heaven includes giant there will be baseball fields that take your breath away....

sweet sister, holding him up.

There really is nothing like the feeling that Coors field gives you.

(we actually had a pretty traumatic experience at the last Broncos game we went to at Sport Authority Field, so that made Coors field feel even more cozy and safe than it ever has. Plus, it hasn't changed names three times in the last three years! Geez! Who can keep up.)

Bode's also been watching a lot of Sandlot recently. Not sure if it's completely appropriate (he just watches 10 minutes at a time) but he's started modeling how the boys hit their hands into the gloves. It's pretty amazing.

Then there's this little ham...
she posed like a tiger because of her leopard cardigan.
(all on her own. She wasn't even shy when the 20 somethings behind me saw her doing it. What a goof ball :)

must've been all of those crackerjacks.

Gotta love this purple dinosaur!

And speaking of purple, we saw the guy who runs all of the contests that they do on the big screen as we were walking into the field. I was hoping that he'd grab us to answer something later. (I was REALLY hoping for that after we saw a guy win $550 after the 3rd inning). But he didn't. Then it dawned on me. You probably don't put a girl in a pink shirt and guy in orange stripes with a little boy in a Boston hat on the jumbotron. Just a guess. I guess we need to be better fans next time and dress in purple.

Thank you Coors Field for a magical night at the ballpark.

More from The Flood

Today I cried with my chiropractor. I saw at least three army vehicles circa: MASH. I watched a Today Show episode on my DVR where Matt Lauer said the name of my small little town. It seems that the impact of the damage that has happened in our area over the last week is still being felt. And obviously. It's been so devastating. Even though our family is fine if you have any sort of heart or emotional pulse, it's hard not to feel crushed for those around you.

Mimi's teacher sent out an email (they're finally going back to school tomorrow). It said that she was going to give the kids ample time to share everything that they've seen and been feeling about the last week. Then I realized that I, much like a preschooler, still need to process all of this too. (Enter blog, stage left). The recent events is all I can talk or think about. I think I've rehashed a thousand times the story of people I know getting airlifted out of their community by the National Guard...and the shock when I realized (because it was explained to me by my mom) that these people probably won't see their houses again until the spring when bridges are repaired. So with two suitcases (what they were allowed) and no car, they left their home to find a new temporary one (while still needing to pay the mortgage for their vacant home).

Because of all of this, family time seems even more important as we huddle together, thankful for each other. But the shadow of what freshly transpired looms over our town and my thoughts. Today I almost cancelled a trip to the museum with friends in Denver because I saw a few billowy clouds-I didn't want to leave my small bubble for the fear that another heavy rain would come and leave us stranded from our home. Then I cancelled an appointment because we had a small, sudden downpour of rain. I think we're all living like another emergency is lurking behind every weather system.

(I neurotically recanted my cancelation of said appointment and slunk sheepishly into my chiropractor's office when I realized that the rain only lasted five minutes and that I was being dramatic. Then she confided in me that she's been feeling the same sort of anxiousness and tearfulness over everything too. Then we shed a few tears together like a couple of weirdoes and I didn't feel so alone.)

So, even though tragedy hasn't personally struck me (by the grace of God), experiencing it through the days spent glued to the TV, newspapers (who am I kidding?! Twitter) and through other peoples' stories have left a mark.

Thanks for letting me get it all out.
(I'm picturing you patting my back and saying, "there there. Let it all out..." ;)

The Today Show

Getting out of the house for the day is hard enough, so I obviously didn't have time or the mental energy to remember to check for road closures.

( I did however have a minute to search for the nearest Einstein's; my newest obsession. Funny how that works).

These are scary clouds though, right?
(but less scary if you imagine hamburgers coming out of them, "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" style)

I really am glad we ventured down to the museum to be with Ali and Kari and their adorable offspring. We had the best, most low-key museum hang out. It was good for everyone's soul (speaking for the Turrill clan).

And plus, Bode could show off his cute, new outfit. Welcome to the world of 2T Mr. Bode Turrill!

Mom and Rodger stopped by last night and my dad today and I'm appreciating being close to people that we love more than ever.

Until I need more one-sided therapy,

More From the Flood

Social media is so funny. Suddenly I feel so naked and transparent by participating in it (says the girl who blogs every day). But seriously. Pinterest and Twitter and blogs and facebook are just ways to show the world how much time you spend goofing off on your computer or phone. Before as a mom you could've been glued to soap operas all day, or talked on the phone for hours on end or sat with a trashy magazine and no one would be the wiser. Now, the world gets to see that I have a nervous twitch that causes me to check Pinterest during every down minute, as well as write four tweets in an hour on Sunday afternoon (day four of flooding and being cooped up inside).

I think I've had a lot of nervous energy (and have also been glued to twitter following flood reports).

Either way, after I tweeted and pinned and blogged (and did other things, I swear) I was starting to feel a little like this:

And the worst part is that the world probably could tell by my frequency on Instagram, etc...

So, continuing in the tradition of over-posting out of sheer pent-up energies, here's more pics from what we've been doing in this odd (and tragic for so many people) time.

Day two of the flood activities included a "tape spider web." It literally used up five minutes...(but took 20 to make)

After attempting to drive to work and seeing "white caps" on the side of the road, Ben turned back towards home...thank goodness. So he worked from home. And Bode "helped."

And this was his theme song...

We tentatively ventured out a few times...

that's a lake that used to be a stream...

The most eerie, ominous clouds you've ever seen...

A little walk for exercise and fresh air:

Mimi wowed us by showing us that she knew how to write her last name!

painting!

The view of I-25 (and why I was glad Ben turned back home)

Main Street

I conquered a huge craft fear and sewed a three-dimensional object using a pattern!!!!

Our town...
(Ang, that's lefthand brewery on the bottom right)

helicopters flying overhead to send relief to Lyons

road closures...

(can you see how obsessed I was with Twitter?!?!)

our facetime with the Chavez boys!
(both houses conveniently had magnifying glasses handy :)

What I sewed!

what's been sustaining me and keeping our spirits up
(in an artificial sugar kind of way)

The really low point...cutting out flashcards from Ben's old PSAT book that we found...it's never too late to learn new words!
(that's how you know it was bleak at our house...)
Julie, you'd play this game with me! :)

Mimi set up a face painting shop...

...and Bode's case of the Sunday Sleepies set in on the couch.

This is what four days of the flood looks like:
(cat and butterfly, respectively. The football -Ben, isn't pictured)

Cooking comfort food...and Mimi helping!
