Summer Splash

If you haven't noticed, my love language is quality time. 

That's probably why a random stop at a splash park (after the dentist visit...hey, maybe that's why Mimi loves the dentist..?) can just make my heart soar.

Or maybe because the rest of life seems so cumbersome at times that throwing caution to the wind and letting your fully clothed daughter prance around in the water feels so liberating.

Wanna ride home naked and wet...? Hey, it's SUMMER. Why not?!

Summer's also been full of run/walks around our new neighborhood...falling in love with it more and more with each step. And, I have my almost four year old to thank for my arm muscles that have reappeared.

Although it's not all peachy keen in the big yellow stroller, as can be seen by this telling pic. We've already begun the "he's TOUCHING me!!!!"

Teeth Obsession and Reading

Mimi LOVES the dentist. 

(Grandma, did she get this tooth obsession from you?!)

We've taken her since she was two (cause insurance pays for it, so really, why not?) and she always asks to go back.

Here's her in the past. I can't ever get over how cute she is on those big chairs with her sunglasses on. We go to My Kid's Dentist by the Orchard Creek shopping center...it's AMAZING. The staff and the pediatric dentist are phenomenal. Love them.

So, it was only appropriate that after our dentist visit later that afternoon Mimi would pick THIS book from the shelf to bring home. 

I had to share because I love it.

It's a busy book (and even though Mimi insists that I read all of the words, I don't) but the illustrations and tongue in cheek humor (pardon the pun!) is entertaining.

Plus, there's nothing like that feeling of leaving with a bag full of things that you didn't pay for. And thanks to the summer reading program, this time we even left with trinkets for turning in our reading sheets!

Fancy Time

On Wednesday we jumped into Ali and Benjamin's hip, fancy Denverite life and visited the Fancy Tiger with them. It's a fabric store...(or crafty place)...but it's not your Grandma's store (no offense Grandma).  It's the most gorgeous, sophisticated fabrics that make your inspiration meter go off the charts.

This is my new child model.

Mimi kept asking, "how much is this? How much is this? How much is THIS?!"

She found some $36 yarn. Needless to say, we didn't bring it home.

We grabbed lunch at a fun mexican restaurant/lounge and fully destroyed it. Bode hit his "done" mark somewhere before ordering drinks, but we soldiered through...let's just say he crawled through the entire (thankfully at the time EMPTY) restaurant and Mimi discovered the leftover gum under the bar tables (with her eyes, thank goodness, not hands or mouth). 

Oh Ali. If you never want to eat with us in a restaurant again, we forgive you. 

It was SO fun though! (especially when we realized that Ali and Benjamin and Matt live MINUTES away from all of that wonderfulness. They walked!)

Mimi was so inspired by the hip scene that she insisted on wearing my hat all the way home in the back seat.

What a BUSY month. I think that everyone (including us) just gets so excited about summer and goes FULL THROTTLE on plan making and social obligations. Wowzers! It's been hectic. (And don't blame Turrill Summer Bingo...we haven't even really begun to touch that list! ;) July, you can blame June if you end up as a really boring summer month. Ben and I have made a pact to make NO PLANS in July without first consulting each other.

Besides doing some great pool time, seeing "Auntie Laura" who was in town as well as the Swansons, we attended Ben's cousin's wedding reception. I really love Ben's family and love seeing them on other occasions besides holidays. So does Mimi. She adores her big girl cousins. When Mimi was just a lil nugget, I remember dreaming about the day we'd be at family events and she'd be tearing around with the girls. That day is here! She loves it!

All of those girls are Mimi's cousins (except for the little one with long hair in the middle. I have no idea who she is! But she was quite photogenic. Anytime she'd see me out with my camera she scream "FASHION" and strike a pose!)

Hanging out with Sue, my old kindergarten teammate :)

It was fun to see her and be reminded of a former identity I possessed..."Mrs. Turrill, kindergarten teacher." I liked reminiscing and catching up on "school news."

It even made me a bit nostalgic for that past life. Just a little. Mostly for having colleagues to hang out in the teacher's lounge with and talk about episodes of the Bachelorette and such. 

Until Sue kindly reminded me that I never really liked to just sit around and chat at school, I liked my space, was pretty stressed and worn thin most of the time, and HATED when people just popped into my classroom to talk, taking away precious planning (or recoop) time. (okay, she didn't say it like that...but something she said about me liking to be in my classroom alone between kinder classes reminded me). Oh, and I don't even WATCH the Bachlorette. So there you have it. Back to reality.
