Easter

We heard a great message today at church.

Our pastor talked about Jesus' last words on the cross, "It is finished."

I've always read those words in the past from my human standpoint, thinking that Jesus was saying that all of his suffering and pain was finished.

But our pastor said that the true origins of the word meant "paid;" the same exact word was actually found on papyrus tax documents and ledgers when something was paid. So when Jesus, God's son sent to earth, died on the cross, something spiritual and supernatural happened to change the course of history.

To know that "Paid in full" is written on my ledger is an amazing thing to me. It  releases me from hoping that my good deeds outweigh my bad (based on my own faulty assessment or comparing myself to others.. who's the mark of good anyways?! Mother Theresa? My neighbor next door?) Jesus knew that we are human and made a way for us to come to a holy God just as we are. We don't have to say "x" number of prayers, attend church "x" number of times, give "x" number of dollars...etc...

What good news.

Another great thing I heard at church was that in the bible it says, if we believe in this message just to make us feel good in this life (which it does) than we are to be pitied. If we stake our whole lives on Jesus' claims, but then die and that's it, then we're pitiful. This message's power comes in the fact that we don't have to fear death because Jesus conquered it. Jesus claimed many things that are historically proven and have been written down and withstood the test of time...I've heard it said, he was either a liar, a lunatic, or Lord.

How Bode REALLY Feels

Sometimes I worry that I'm too lax as a parent.

Bode knows how to pull up YouTube on my phone faster than I do to get an Elmo fix, and Mimi occasionally picks up her room.

Bode also has been showing quite a temper under that angelic blonde hair. We try time out, but I always wonder if I'm consistent enough.

However, after this incident during reading a bedtime story, I'm now sure that at least he knows what "time out" is, and that it's a thing he does NOT want to do.

Mimi's Pet Shop

Last weekend we had TWO consecutive play dates with Ruby, the pug from next door, and Mimi attended church on Sunday pulling a stuffed poodle on a leash. I'd say we're in deep with Mimi's "dog need."

At any given moment, thousands of stuffed "pets" can be seen scattered around the house- poor substitutes for her real wish, a dog to call her own.

Since stuffed pets are going to be the only ones she has for awhile (with the exception of Henry the cat of course), I wanted to find a way to contain them all in a fun display. 

Here it is, "Mimi's Pet Shop!"

Just a little canvas "canopy" to make this basement shelf look like a store front.

It was fun to make! I'm hoping to stencil some letters next to it soon.

Snow Time WIth Uncle Drew

Saturday we had Uncle Drew over. He wanted help taking some pictures for a website...I was happy to work on my skills (they need help :)

Mimi was obliging when I needed her to test the light..

Bode was wound up to play catch with Uncle Drew...

Bode was taking Uncle Drew's pointers to heart. He even caught the ball a few times.

Then Mimi asked Uncle Drew if he could come and play in the snow outside...

Bode was happy in the snow for much longer than he'd ever been before...but I knew it'd come to an end sooner than later!

So we went inside and Drew and Mimi migrated out back for more sledding.

Such a good uncle :)
